Grown, harvested, and bottled in the heart of the most prominent appellation in Oregon, the Willamette Valley, our Duck Pond wines embody and reflect a true commitment to farming sustainably and organically - as they have for over 25 years. Now part of The Great Oregon Wine Company & Distillery, it is our honor and mission to preserve and uphold the beauty and legacy of Duck Pond Cellars with the same love and attention as their founders. Our vision is to blend innovation with heritage and best organic practices to produce quality wines that express the region in its purest, most natural form, just as mother nature intended. We do this in a way that is better for people and the planet because we believe in leaving the world a better place than how we found it. Our promise is to provide you with high-quality wines at the best value and carefully taste each barrel to select the blend that we consider to be the optimal wine from that vintage.

wine maker

Duck Pond Cellars opened its doors on Memorial Weekend in 1993 and has grown to be one of the most recognized Oregon wine brands.. After moving from California’s Central Valley, longtime farmers and wine enthusiasts, Doug & Jo Ann Fries purchased land along the Willamette River in Dundee where they planted a hazelnut orchard as well as a 13-acre vineyard. Initially focused on Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris, the winery has grown to own and farm three vineyards in Oregon and makes around 50,000 cases of wine a year, recently adding a Willamette Valley Chardonnay to the line-up.

In 2018, the Fries Family handed over the keys to The Great Oregon Wine Company, who had been purchasing grapes on and off from them prior to acquiring the Duck Pond brand. The quality of the estate vineyards and the fruit produced are unparalleled in the Willamette Valley and continues to be reflected and enjoyed in every glass.

Stewards of the land

As responsible stewards of the land, we believe in leaving a place better than we found it, which is why every sale of Duck Pond Cellars wine supports the Wetlands Conservancy. Wetlands are vital to the health of our environment which contributes to our overall well-being. They clean and restore our water supply; provide critical fish and wildlife habitats; and protect our communities from flooding. The Wetlands Conservancy is a leader in Oregon wetland conservation. Since 1981, they have worked to protect Oregon’s greatest wetlands through conservation, collaboration & stewardship.

Duck Pond Cellars has also partnered with the Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife Service for the past seven years. Each limited-edition wine from our Conservation Cuvee Wine Series features a local artist, combining our love of the environment with our love of community and the arts. Each painting represented on these labels is voted for by our community every November. For each bottle sold, $5 is donated to the Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife Conservation Program.

Oregon's rich and varied landscape supports an amazing diversity of wildlife. Our state is home to about 600 vertebrate species of nongame wildlife―animals that are not fished, trapped or hunted. ODFW's Conservation Program is chartered with serving this large nongame population through management and conservation programs. The program also seeks to inform, to educate and to enhance recreational opportunities involving wildlife. Shop the collection
