2016 Willow Creek Clone 115 Pinot Noir
Duck Pond Cellars
Willow Creek is unique amongst our six vineyard sites, being that it is composed exclusively of the 114, 115 and 777 Dijon clones of Pinot noir. Known to be particularly suited to the cooler climates of the Willamette Valley, this “115 clone” Pinot noir shows the hallmarks of a wonderful, ripe vintage. A nose of crushed violets, black raspberry puree and earth leads to a palate of lush black fruit with balanced acidity. Firm, yet soft tannin convince me that this wine will drink now with a short decant, or will reward aging over the next 3-5 years.
150 cases produced.
Vineyard practices are the leading factor in high quality fruit, and the vineyard management follows a strict regime. Shoot thinning is performed early in the year; after fruit set, leaves are removed in the fruit zone on the east side of the vines. Later, the clusters are counted and thinned to a maximum of 28 clusters per vine. Once the grapes have achieved 75% color, a final cluster thinning is performed to remove any green or second crop clusters. The average yield is 2 tons per acre.
