2018 Front Yard Vineyard Pinot Noir

The Great Oregon Wine Company
Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
The color is light and bright with a vibrant transparent red color. Consistent color to the outer rim with a slight pink variation. The nose is intriguing with a deep red cherry flavor, wild strawberry, and red currants. The spice and earth components are beautifully integrated and offer a deep complexity that goes on and on. Wild field flowers and dusty earth fill in with additional layers that lead to the oak components of toasty vanillin, cinnamon, and caramel. The aromatic intensity is subtle, yet pretty and balanced. On the palate, the ripe red cherry fruit flavor leads the way with hints of red plum and wild strawberry. Cola, red flowers, mineral, mushroom, and woodsy spice all find a place on in the flavor profile of this wine. Lush with fruit texture, yet lifted and aromatic. This 2018 shows restraint with fruit ripeness and oak use and has a lovely balance in the texture as a result.
Vineyard Notes
Our estate vineyard is located in front of our winery located in the Willamette Valley. 40% Pommard, 25% 115, 25% 777 and 10% Mariafeld clones. Our ‘Front Yard’ Pinot Noir is fantastically different, underscoring the difference that only a few hundred feet can make in vineyards.
Production Notes
Hand picked grapes were fermented in 1.5 ton bins. Barrel aged in 50% new French oak for 14 months.
Winemaker Notes
Late September of 2018 was cooler and dry which allowed the grapes to retain their acidity. A dry harvest allowed us to hand pick the grapes once they were perfectly ripe.
