2019 La Chouette Pinot Gris

Great Oregon Wine Company

Golden color and clean on the nose. Tangerine, cantaloupe, and pear fruits on the nose and palate. Clean and bright with mineral, field flowers, and spice on the finish. Dry and savory, with lots of depth and character. This wine will get even more delicious as it develops in the bottle.

Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Showcasing bright aromatics and clean tropical flavors, melon and lemon zest.
Vineyard Notes
La Chouette Vineyard faces southwest, looking toward the Coastal Range. Approximately 11 acres of carefully farmed, estate-grown fruit. This Pinot Gris clone, FPS 04, is grown in soil comprised of Steiwer and Chehulpum Silt Loams. The soil is quite fertile with about 3 feet of top soil before finding sedimentary soils with plant and shell fossils
Production Notes
After 5 years of warm vintages with a dry harvest window, 2019 was a return to "classic" Oregon. A warm spring gave normal timing to budbreak and flowering. Summer was warm without the heat spikes of recent Augusts allowing the fruit to ripen evenly. The fall weather pattern came early bringing with it extreme bird pressure. Up to 3" of rain in September forced harvest into a compressed window. Proper vineyard management was critical to deliver sound, ripe fruit while wineries had to show patience in making pick decisions. The wines produced show bright aromatics and clean fruit flavors. Good acidity provides structure for the wine to age over time.
Winemaker Notes
Hand picked, pressed, juice settled for 48 hours prior to fermentation. Cool fermented in 1,000 gallon stainless tank using VL3 yeast.
