2019 Ransom Reds
Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Opening with a vivid nose of fresh plum and THIS, the palate is dense and bright, with fine river
stone tannins wrapped around a savory core with flavors of incense cedar and fines herbes. The
Reds blend finishes with energy and power, leaving behind notes of cherry conserve and cigar
box. Open and expressive now, it should cellar well for the better part of the decade.
Vineyard Notes
40% Columbia Country Syrah - Columbia Valley AVA, 30% Columbia Country Merlot -
Columbia Valley AVA and 30% Gold Vineyard Tinta Cão - Rogue Valley AVA.
Production Notes
2019 began with a warm, wet spring and bud break commenced on schedule in April. A cool
spell of weather in June around bloom naturally modulated fruit set, lowering yields. The late
spring and summer were warmer than average but lacked notable heat spikes, allowing for
steady vine growth and development during the growing season through véraison, which took
place in mid-August. A cooling trend starting in early September slowed ripening at the final
moments, allowing for additional hang time and flavor development while keeping the fruit in
perfect balance until harvest began in mid-September. The 2019 wines are marked by vibrant
fruit flavors, ageworthy structure, and food-friendly acidity.
Winemaker Notes
The fruit was 100% destemmed with a high percentage of whole berries to 1.5 ton fermenters. An
elegant yet accessible blend of two of the world’s best known red varietals and an intriguing
Portuguese varietal, Tinta Cão, the Ransom Reds blend is crafted to be lively and food friendly.
Handpicked fruit was destemmed and carefully fermented in small lots. The wine was aged nine
months in mixed French cooperage (30% Once-filled, 70% neutral). This wine was bottled
without fining or filtration.
