2020 Duck Pond Natural Path Pinot Gris

Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Our 2020 Pinot Gris expresses true Willamette Valley character. Bright aromas of pear, lemon and peach jump from the glass with hints of herbs, delicate flowers and minerals. The fresh fruit flavors of crisp citrus and pear are balanced with a light texture. The fruity finish is rounded out with a mineral-focused complexity.
Vineyard Notes
This Pinot Gris is grown at Kraemer Farms in Mt. Angel, Oregon, from 7 year old vines. Continuously farmed by the Kraemer family since 1964, the vines planted in 2016 yield beautiful. Deep loam soils provide a wonderful substrate to help ripen the fruit just as the weather cools in the eastern Willamette Valley, at the foot of the Cascade range.
Production Notes
2020 began with a cool, wet spring. Budbreak was tracking in a normal pattern, while rain during bloom caused yields to be lower than normal - focusing concentration of berry and flavor development. A cooler than normal July and August helped the fruit ripen slowly and evenly, with a heat bump in the first week of September to help finish out the year.
Winemaker Notes
The fruit for this wine was whole cluster pressed upon arrival and fermented in separate blocks at low temperatures for 35 days. The wine was aged sur lie in tank for two months and then racked and gently fined with bentonite. The wine was cold stabilized using chilling and was then filtered prior to bottling.
