2020 Rascal Chilean Pinot Noir

Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
The wine has a brilliant ruby red color with deeper hues of indigo. It is intense and complex on the nose which is dominated by fruity aromas of black cherries, blueberries and plums, combined with subtle savory notes of tobacco, sweet basil and vanilla. On the palate this wine is soft, fresh and round with a finish that hints of spice and brown sugar.
Vineyard Notes
Los Largos vineyard is located in Talca, 200 kms south of Santiago in the Central Valley. The vineyards are planted over alluvial soils mixed with clay and stones. The climate is chilly at night due to the Andes mountain influence. Ripening is slow allowing for development of intense aromas and freshness.
Production Notes
2020 was a low-yield vintage. The previous winter was the driest of the last 60 years, so the vines grew a bit stressed. Even though we had enough water to irrigate the vines, the soils were dry during the spring which helped to add concentration and intensity. Harvest was one week earlier due to the lower yields, but the weather was fresh and mild, without extreme temperature variation.
Winemaker Notes
Harvested by hand, destemmed and crushed, then kept at 5ºC for 5 days before fermentation. Alcoholic fermentation was done in stainless steel tanks for 23 days, with gentle pumping over in order to keep the delicate fruit character. 20% of the wine was aged for 5 months in contact with French oak.
