2016 Blanc De Noir Sparkling
Duck Pond Cellars
"Fun, energetic, and bubbly in the glass with a light golden hue. The radiant color and lively effervescence make for a very attractive visual even before tasting. This 100% Pinot Noir sparkling wine is produced from fruit that was sourced at our very own Coles Valley Vineyard in the Umpqua Valley from the 2016 vintage. Following a similar production path to that of vintage Champagne, this wine spends almost three years on the lees before being disgorged. The result is a sparkling wine with a rich, mature, nutty complexity that fits the seductive profile of a Pinot Noir sparkler. Traditional Blanc de Noirs Champagne producers have the option to include both Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, but is the Pinot Noir that truly adds the richness and complexity to the Champagne blend. On its own, it can be decadently pure and full of concentrated silky smooth layers. This is an outstanding example of a new world Blanc de Noirs, and the value relative to true Champagne is remarkable. Duck Pond may not be known for sparkling wine, but our commitment to excellence truly shines through in this fun, yet serious bubbly wine." - Brett Zimmerman, MS
The 2016 Blanc de Noir is made with 100% Pinot Noir grapes. The wine was aged on lees for three years, this offers structured length that pairs wonderfully with seafood and decadent holiday fare. The Blanc de Noir has a lush palate and lively bubbles.
Wow, the possibilities are endless. Sparkling Pinot Noir goes well with so many great food products and preparations. Certainly with the style of this full bodied Blanc de Noirs there is consideration for something salty and savory. This wine could serve as a delicious compliment to roasted game birds, braised pork, veal, and anything featuring mushrooms. There is plenty of bright acidity and bubbly joy to keep the palate refreshed with any rich dish - consider this a very versatile wine. Of course, don’t forget the classic pairing of enjoying great sparkling wine with the umami flavor of Asian cuisine. The salt, soy, fish oils, and generally bright flavors should work brilliantly with the components of this rich, yet zippy sparkling wine.
