Tasting Notes

Brilliant ruby color in the glass with hues of pink and purple on the outer rim. The wine shows youth in the glass with reflective clarity and intensity. The viscosity of the wine seems to be moderate and suggests a medium body on the palate. The nose is deep with dark mineral, wet leaves, and mushroom. The fruits are layered with a combination of dried black cherry, red plum, and fresh boysenberry. The secondary earth notes of sassafras, cola, and dried violets add complexity and layers on the nose. The palate offers lush, ripe red and black cherry fruits with blackberry and plum skin. The forward fruit character is dry on the palate with layers of mineral, wet leaves, and mushroom adding earth and organic influence. This wine is beautifully balanced with lively acidity and a soft finish. Drink now or cellar for 1-3 years.

Vineyard Notes

Blended from our Willamette valley vineyards. Our St. Jory, Hylo, Willow Creek and Delaney vineyards are located in the cooler Willamette Valley AVA and are planted with the traditional Pommard clone, as well as small portions of 115, 114 and 777 at our Willow Creek vineyard. This Pinot Noir combines the best aspects from each vineyard with a distinct sense of the rich complexity of Oregon. Vineyard practices of shoot thinning is performed early in the year; after fruit set, leaves are removed in the fruit zone on the east side of the vines. Later, the clusters are counted and thinned to a maximum of 28 clusters per vine. Once the grapes have achieved 75% color, a final cluster thinning is performed to remove any green or second crop clusters. The average yield is 2 tons per acre.

Winemaker Notes

This is a blend of Willamette Valley Pinot Noir. Barrel aged in 30% new oak. This Pinot Noir blend comes from four Willamette Valley vineyards in the South Salem area. This area of the Willamette Valley had diverse soils, each imparting its own nuances in the wine. The unique red Jory soil offers bright cherry, cranberry and earthy tones, while the sedimentary soils bring out notes of riper black fruit and cherry cola.
