Ransom Albarino Willamette Valley

Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Adopted from a hillside cooled by maritime winds and a long rainy season in Spain and planted in another such climate in the coolest parts of the Willamette Valley, we believe this wine presents a compelling case for a new home for Albariño. The 2020 Albariño opens with vivid aromas of lemon balm and green apple. On the palate, beguiling flavors of key lime and sabayon are nestled amongst layers of minerality. The wine finishes saline, with fresh acidity and a hint of honeysuckle.
Vineyard Notes
Ransom Estate Vineyard: 100% Portuguese clone on 101-14 rootstock, Planted in 2012, Elevation: 320 feet, Aspect: East, Goodin & Panther soils, Certified Organic
Production Notes
2020 began with a cool, wet spring. Budbreak was tracking in a normal pattern, while rain during bloom caused yields to be lower than normal -focusing concentration of berry and flavor development. A cooler than normal July and August helped the fruit ripen slowly and evenly, with a heat bump in the first week of September to help drive ripeness and concentration in the fruit to finish out the growing season.
Winemaker Notes
The fruit was gently whole cluster pressed and the juice was settled and racked to neutral oak barrels, where it was fermented and aged sur lie, before being racked, blended, lightly bentonite fined, filtered, and bottled.
